Storytime & Directed Drawing Workshop with Mangeshig Pawis-Steckley
Saturday, September 26 | 10:30 AM
Kinder Books
Join us for a very special morning with award-winning Anishinaabe author and illustrator Mangeshig Pawis-Steckley, a member of Wasauksing First Nation.
We'll begin with a captivating storytime featuring one of Mangeshig's beautifully illustrated books. Then, participants will have the opportunity to learn directly from the artist during a guided drawing workshop, where they will create their own artwork while exploring the creative process behind children's book illustration.
Mangeshig Pawis-Steckley's work celebrates Anishinaabe culture through stories that explore language revitalization, ancestral knowledge, and memory. His acclaimed books have received numerous honours, including the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Children's Book Award, the Indigenous Voices Award, and the Blue Spruce Award. Miimaanda ezhi-gkendmaanh / This Is How I Know, written by Brittany Luby and illustrated by Mangeshig, was also shortlisted for the Governor General's Literary Award.
This interactive event is suitable for children ages 5 and up, and everyone is welcome.
