Once a year, book lovers across the country come together to celebrate the heart and soul of reading communities: independent bookstores! Canadian Independent Bookstore Day is a national celebration of the local shops that bring stories to life, support local authors, and create gathering spaces where imaginations grow—and we’re thrilled to be part of it.
At Kinder Books, we believe that books can open worlds, spark creativity, and build connection—and that’s exactly what this day is all about. Whether you’re joining us for the first time or you’ve been part of our story for years, we invite you to help us celebrate the power of independent bookstores and the magic they bring to our communities.
We’ll be marking the occasion with a joyful mix of storytelling, music, hands-on creativity, and fun surprises for the whole family. From author visits and art activities to scavenger hunts and golden ticket giveaways, there’ll be something special around every corner.
This day isn’t just about books—it’s about the people who love them. It’s about community, creativity, and the little moments that remind us why supporting local matters.

10 AM - Storytime & Art Workshop
Enjoy a lively reading with local author Stephanie Ellen Sy (A Roof!)followed by a hands-on art session with talented artist Nicholas Brancati. Register here.
2 PM - Mini Concert & Craft Time
Tap your toes to a cheerful mini concert by local musician Brian Cook, then get crafty with a fun project hosted by Steady Studio. Register here.
Kids Scavenger Hunt
Grab a passport and find the Canadian animals hidden around the shop. A complete passport = one draw from the prize bag!
