Kinder Books and Western Sky Books
Proudly Announce
A Partnership between your Tri-Cities Award Winning Independent Bookstores
Port Moody and Port Coquitlam, BC— June 9, 2020 —
Kinder Books and Western Sky Books are proud to announce a new partnership to benefit readers and teachers in Metro Vancouver.
"During this time when small businesses are struggling, we came up with this creative idea to collaborate and share our passion for providing meaningful stories to families and useful resources to teachers,” said Anne Uebbing, owner of Port Moody’s Kinder Books.
“We are very excited to find a temporary home for Kinder Books at Western Sky Books, which is a meeting place for book lovers of all ages,” said Uebbing. “Locals supporting locals all the way!"
“Both of our bookstores faced new challenges these last few months, and we continue to do so,” said Tamara Gorin, owner of Western Sky Books.
“The independent bookstore community is close knit, and we are invested in keeping every store open and available to our communities so they can access books,” according to Gorin.
Selling books for over ten years, Kinder Books usually does so through markets, book fairs, and professional conferences. With the necessary COVID-19 Health and Safety measures in place to protect the community, those avenues of sales dried up quickly, and will not likely bounce back to regular routines until well into 2021.
Positive Customer Impact
Both stores carry their inventory online. With the new partnership, customers can buy their new children’s books and teachers’ resources through the Kinder Books website then arrange for contactless pick up at Western Sky Books. There will also be select Kinder Books products available to purchase at the store and the Western Sky Books website.
“Westerns Sky Books focuses on getting used, hard to find, and discount children’s books in families’ hands, while Kinder Books provides access to some truly amazing new titles. We will provide readers with a wide and dynamic range of books, while supporting each other to stay open,” said Gorin.
Both book stores are well loved in the Tri-Cities, winning 1st place in the 2019 Tri-City News A-list Awards in their respective communities of Port Moody and Port Coquitlam.
Western Sky Books, operating in Port Coquitlam since November 2016 and with a storefront open since November 2017, is also recognized as the Port Coquitlam 2019 May Day Business of the Year and won the PoCo BESTBIZ 2019 Award in the Small Business category.
