Spring 2017 News!

Dear Friends of Kinder Books,

This morning as I was setting up my table at the Artisan Market in New West, I put spring flowers on the table. Many people stopped by. Some smelled them, some touched them, others just smiled at this sign of hope and new beginnings.

We have planned some new things for this year and one important event is coming up soon: Litfest in New West from March 31 to April 2 . Kinder Books has organized two creative workshops for children with two local children’s books authors: Grayson Smith and Edward Lee Foedi, which will take place on April 1. For the complete program have a look here or contact for more information.
We hope you can join us !

Connecting with the World through Books

Often, when people come to my book table they tell me stories about the people who will receive them as gifts. Many times I hear that they are going to someone far away from Canada. Today I had four of these experiences…

  1. A Japanese exchange student bought a book about farm animals for her sister’s preschool in Japan
  2. A couple visiting from South Africa bought two books about trees in North America because “they love our trees over here so much.”
  3. A woman bought two First Nation stories for a family who has moved from Canada to Scotland as a reminder of their homeland
  4. A teacher from Saudi Arabia bought First Nations colouring books and pencils for her students

What a small world. And I am connecting the dots through books !

The Hidden Life of Trees

I received this as a reading sample in the mail today and started reading right away. I feel like I can’t put it down. After our tree accident earlier this year I feel even more connected with trees. This title will be available at Kinder Books. If you are curious to learn more about these big, friendly giants, please send me a note.
